Norwell Issues Urgent Boil Water Order Amid Escalating Water Restrictions

Town officials issued an urgent boil water order on July 8, directing residents to boil tap water before consumption while the water system issue is addressed.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Norwell issued an urgent boil water order effective July 8, according to a notice posted on the town's official website. Accompanying instructions detail how residents should boil water before drinking, cooking, or other consumption uses while the order remains in effect; residents are advised to check the town website for updates on when the order will be lifted.

The boil water order follows a Tier 4 water restriction that had already been in place since June 17, marking an escalation in the town's ongoing water system concerns this summer. Separately, the Norwell Housing Authority held its Annual Plan Hearing in late May, and the town continues to seek applicants for several Advisory Board vacancies, with a deadline to apply by July 31.

The library noted that, due to budgetary cuts, it will no longer offer seasonal Sunday hours, with more detail on the FY26 budget impacts available on the library's website. The library's July newsletter is also now available for residents seeking a fuller rundown of programs and hours.
